Counselling Service
Telford Mind provides a professional, confidential, free Counselling Service for adults.
How can counselling help you?
Over the years many of us lose
self-belief and confidence and judge ourselves by how we think others
see us. We may become anxious, depressed or stressed and need help to
deal with problems from the past or in our everyday life.
Counselling can offer you the opportunity to express your thoughts and
feelings in a confidential, safe and understanding environment. When we
are listened to with empathy, valued and accepted for what we are and
not judged we are able to talk about our worries, conflicts, confusion
and pain.
The aim is for you to gain new insight and understanding of yourself, your relationships, your life and your difficulties.
With
greater awareness you may discover recurring patterns of behaviour and
thinking that you have used throughout your life, that may have once
been the only way to cope, but are not helping you now.
With the Counsellor's help you can change these
patterns, learn healthier ways of coping and lead a more rewarding,
fulfilling life. The Counsellors
at Telford Mind believe that everyone is unique, full of potential,
capable of change, growth, choice and self-direction. Counselling can
help you, if you are ready and willing to participate actively in the
process. The Counsellor is there to help
YOU make the changes.
Counsellors
do not give advice or make decisions for you, but can help you see
alternative ways of thinking and behaving and explore problems more
fully so that you are more able to make decisions and act for yourself.
This requires time, courage, openness, honesty and trust from you and your counsellor.
It is a journey you take together.
Focusing
on your problems can be painful, strong feelings may come up and you
may feel vulnerable or angry while you are working through them. Making
changes can feel uncomfortable for a while - for you and for others. To
feel safe and supported it is very important you can trust your
Counsellor and feel comfortable with them.
Our counsellors are all volunteers.
Most are qualified to at least
Diploma level. and some have postgraduate qualifications. One or two
are student counsellors who are in their final year of study before
qualifying. The Counselling team are committed to continuing
professional development and have regular professional supervision. All
are members of relevant professional organisations, such as BACP and
work in accordance with the respective ethical frameworks for good
practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
